The Association of Talent Development (ATD) conference #atd23 is an annual event that brings together professionals from around the world to share knowledge, insights, and best practices in the talent development industry. The 2023 conference was no exception, with over 10,000 attendees from 50 countries coming together to learn and connect.
Our Xyleme team hasn’t attended ATD in a few years, and this year’s event proved to be thoroughly impressive. From the conversations had, to the overall layout of the event, and the different activities throughout, we had an amazing time!
This year’s conference had a strong focus on the role of AI and ChatGPT in talent development. Keynote speakers and panel discussions explored the ways in which these technologies are changing the industry and how professionals can leverage them to improve learning outcomes.

Top Key Points from the Conference:
Personalization
One of the main themes of the conference was personalization in learning and development. The speakers emphasized the importance of tailoring training programs to individual learners' needs, preferences, and learning styles. This can be achieved through the use of technology, such as adaptive learning software and artificial intelligence.
Microlearning
Another popular topic at ATD23 was microlearning, which involves breaking down training content into small, bite-sized pieces. This approach makes learning more manageable and accessible, especially for busy professionals who may not have the time for longer training sessions.
Gamification
Gamification is the use of game elements, such as points, badges, and leaderboards, to make learning more engaging and motivating. Many speakers at ATD23 discussed the benefits of incorporating gamification into training programs, as it can increase learner engagement and retention.
Learning Analytics
Learning analytics involves using data to measure and analyze the effectiveness of training programs. This approach allows organizations to identify areas for improvement and make data-driven decisions about their learning and development initiatives.
Soft Skills
Soft skills, such as communication, collaboration, and emotional intelligence, were also a focus at ATD23. Speakers emphasized the importance of developing these skills in employees, as they are becoming increasingly important in today's workplace.

Conversations we Had:
Xyleme Dinner & Networking Night

Networking night was a fun event at Petco Field in San Diego! There was a hot air balloon, live music, food, and much more. Attendees could continue the conversations they had at the conference but with more of a relaxed feel.
Our AVP, Connor Saucier said, “I came away from ATD feeling that it was a successful show in showcasing our capabilities to a wide variety of industries. We had great conversations with guests at our booth that asked great questions and provided a lot of details and insight into their organizational struggles.”
